Tony Nguyen Promoted to UWF Assistant Athletic Director
PENSACOLA, Fla. - University of West Florida Head Athletic Trainer Tony Nguyen has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director. Nguyen will now oversee the Athletic Department's marketing and promotions efforts as well as managing game operations. The department's search for a new Head Athletic Trainer is under way, and interested candidates are invited to apply for the open position at jobs.uwf.edu.
"We are pleased to announce that Tony Nguyen has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director," said UWF Interim Athletic Director Dave Scott. "As we move forward with the Athletic Department Strategic Plan, it is important to place the appropriate personnel in the right roles and we believe Tony will excel as an athletic administrator. He will have a positive impact on the future of UWF Athletics."
"I am excited for this opportunity," Nguyen explained. "This is an area of the athletic department I have had interest in for a long time, and I'm looking forward to making the transition."
Before coming to UWF in August 2000, Nguyen spent time as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Western Kentucky and a graduate assistant at Southern Mississippi. He has also seen time working with Vanguard High School in Ocala, Fla. and Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.
Nguyen earned his B.S. with honors in Exercise and Sport Science with specialization in Athletic Training from the University of Florida in 1995. He added an M.S. in Sports Administration to his education in 1999. He is a member of several prestigious athletic training organizations, including National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA). Nguyen is married to the former Christal Henderson of Waynesboro, Miss.
