West Florida Finishes 29th in 2008-09 Learfield Directors' Cup
UWF First Among All GSC Schools
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The University of West Florida finished 29th in the final 2008-09 standings of the NCAA Division II Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup, it was announced on Friday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). UWF was the top finisher among all Gulf South Conference schools, as Valdosta State trailed in 31st place.
West Florida finished with 403.00 points in the standings, as Grand Valley State won its sixth straight Division II cup with 1014.50 points despite not earning a single NCAA championship. Minnesota State Mankato (800.25), Central Missouri (776.00), Abilene Christian (721.00), and Indianapolis (695.00) rounded out the top five. Tampa (15th - 461.50) and Lynn (16th - 460.25) were the top finishers in the South Region, as West Florida ranked third in the region.
In the spring season, West Florida earned points for NCAA postseason competition in men’s and women’s golf, softball, and men’s and women’s tennis. The Argonauts also had their men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, and volleyball teams compete in the NCAA postseason, led by the women’s soccer team’s national runner-up finish.
UWF claimed its fourth straight GSC Women’s All-Sports Trophy in 2008-09, and the men’s team finished tied for fourth place.
