Megan Steinocher

Freshman Megan Steinocher (Lawrenceville, Ga./Mill Creek HS) started her collegiate career with a bang, taking the individual title at the Choctaw Season Opener 4k race on Tuesday of last week.  Steinocher, the GSC Runner of the Week, also had a strong showing at the Cal State Fullerton Season Opener on Saturday, placing 68th with a 6k time of 25:06 in a stellar field of premier Division I runners.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (2-0-0, 0-0-0 GSC)
- 9/4 vs. Saint Leo: CANCELED
- 9/5 vs. Warner Pacific: 9-0 W

The No. 2 West Florida women’s soccer team had its highly anticipated game versus regional rival Saint Leo canceled on Friday due to several cases of the H1N1 virus on the SLU team.  The Argonauts did play on Saturday versus Warner Pacific, and fans in attendance saw an offensive explosion as UWF took home a 9-0 victory.  Shaneka Gordon scored a hat trick and Dernelle Mascall scored twice and assisted twice to lead the charge.  The UWF defense matched the play of the attackers, as the back line allowed just one shot and no shots on goal.

UWF has a busy schedule ahead this week, as a mid-week match with Spring Hill on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. precedes a trip to central Florida to face regional opponents Rollins and Florida Southern.  All games will be available with live audio and stats online at www.GoArgos.com.
