UWF Hires Brett Berg as Assistant A.D. for Development
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida is pleased to announce the hiring of Brett Berg as Assistant Athletic Director for Development, a dual-reporting position housed in Intercollegiate Athletics and the Office of Development. Berg had previously worked for UWF Athletics as the department’s Director of Marketing and Corporate Relations, and he will start in his new role on Monday, February 1.
"I am very excited about returning to the University of West Florida,” said Berg. “There is a lot of momentum for UWF Athletics and I am thrilled to be helping UWF move forward. I am looking forward to building our booster club and community involvement in UWF Athletics."
Berg brings a varied background to the job, including experience in athletics and other areas. Berg most recently worked as Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center in Mobile, Ala. starting in 2006. Prior to that, Berg worked in Pensacola as the Assistant Director of Development for the Baptist Health Care Foundation, as well as Director of Baptist SportsCare. Berg has also taught as adjunct faculty at UWF since 2002 in the Department of Communications.
“Brett brings a diverse combination of backgrounds to the development position,” said Athletic Director Dave Scott. “He has experience in development in the local area with Baptist Health Care, intercollegiate athletic involvement at Clemson and Florida State, and he has a great working knowledge of the University. These experiences will enable him to have a greater opportunity for success in developing relationships with the regional community for the University of West Florida.”
“Brett brings to UWF Athletics and Development broad experience in fundraising and extensive knowledge of UWF Athletics,” said UWF Director of Development Martha Lee Blodgett. “His background makes him the right person to lead the fundraising efforts for the UWF intercollegiate athletics program and we look forward to working with him.”
Berg graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Florida State in 1994 and received his Master’s in Sports Administration from Clemson in 1997. He worked for several years in sports information, first while attending UWF from 1990-92 and again as a graduate assistant at Clemson from 1995-98.
Berg also worked as a stringer writing for the Pensacola News Journal for over 10 years. His athletics experience also includes a position as Media Manager for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games in 1996 and working with the Carolina Panthers and Florida State basketball team.
Brett is the son of retired UWF Athletic Director and recent Hall of Fame inductee Richard Berg. He is married to Teresa, a UWF graduate, and they have two children, Hayden (4) and Charlotte (1).
