Argos Dominate in 13-1 Win Over Mississippi Valley State

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida Argonauts completed their three game sweep over visiting Mississippi Valley State with a 13-1 pounding Thursday night at Jim Spooner Field. The Argos tallied 13 runs on 12 hits before the 10-run rule was put into effect in the sixth inning.
Three first inning walks from the Delta Devil’s starter Britt Goodman allowed West Florida to get on the board first. The Argos broke the game wide open in the second with a seven run inning. Brandon Brewer got the offense going with a two-run single down the right field line with one out and runners on second and third. Brewer’s base hit was followed by five two-out hits and walk which plated seven runs to the Argos a comfortable 8-0 lead.
The Delta Devils scratched away a run in the top of third to make it 8-1 but the Argos responded back in the fourth with another big five run inning. In the inning, the Delta Devil’s sent three pitchers out to the mound but to no avail. The Argos knocked two base hits with two outs before the Delta Devils pitchers walked five straight batters to give the Argos a 13-1 lead.
West Florida starter Jason Postill earned his third win of the season, going five solid innings while fanning five batters. Freshman David Corral had a day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI in just his fifth start of the season. With the win the Argos improve to 15-10 overall and will host NAIA Oklahoma Wesleyan on Monday at 5 p.m. CT in their final non-conference game before Gulf South Conference action starts up next weekend.
