Argonaut Weekly - Week 8 Recap
Duncan, Wilhoite Named Argonauts of the Week
PENSACOLA, Fla. - The West Florida Argonauts were undefeated on the soccer field and volleyball court last week, solidifying their spot atop the Gulf South Conference standings. In addition, the UWF cross country teams posted fine showings at their final meet before the GSC meet.
ARGONAUTS OF THE WEEK
Shakira Duncan (Kingston, Jamaica/Darton College) scored five goals in two matches last week, including both game-winners, as the Argonauts won a pair of GSC matches. On Friday against North Alabama, Duncan netted twice in a 2-1 victory, and on Sunday against West Georgia she added a hat trick in a 5-3 win. Duncan now has 20 goals in 16 matches, while the Argos are a perfect 7-0 in GSC play.
Chelsea Wilhoite (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny HS) was instrumental in three volleyball victories last week, including two wins that put West Florida back in first place in the GSC East. On Tuesday, the senior led all players with ten kills in an easy 3-0 sweep of Mobile. She chipped in ten kills and 13 digs on Friday night in a 3-0 win over Valdosta State that pushed UWF past the Blazers for the top spot in the GSC East. On Saturday, the Argos stayed on top thanks to Wilhoite’s 13 kills and 11 digs in a 3-1 win over West Georgia.
