UWF Athletics to Host Promotion-Packed Weekend
UWF Welcomes Back the 2000 Volleyball Team Saturday at Pack It Pink Match
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will host several promotions at the soccer and volleyball games scheduled for this coming weekend. Promotions will be held at Friday night’s and Saturday afternoon’s volleyball matches and Sunday’s soccer matches.
The weekend’s events kick off at the West Florida-North Alabama volleyball match Friday night. First serve is set for 7 p.m. The night’s match will be UWF’s first annual Fright Night. At the match, fans can win a prize at the group costume contest or in the individual costume contest for grades 9 and below. The event will also include a jack-o-lantern contest and a haunted hallway where free candy will be given away. Current UWF students coming in groups of four will get a free pizza. Fright Night is sponsored by Spirit Halloween store.
On Saturday, Oct. 30, the UWF volleyball team will host its annual breast cancer awareness match. UWF will face Alabama-Huntsville at 2 p.m. in the UWF Field House. The first 600 fans will receive a free pink t-shirt commemorating the day's events. Donations to the Side-Out Foundation will be accepted in lieu of tickets. Fans can also contribute to the breast cancer cause by participating in the silent auction during the event. A pregame reception for all cancer survivors will be held in the Argonaut Athletic Club. For more information on the reception please contact Robin Dezarn at email@example.com or 474-3312. Between sets two and three of the match, the 2000 UWF volleyball team will be honored. The year 2000 was the first that volleyball was a varsity sport at UWF, and the team is honoring 10 years of Argonaut volleyball.
In addition, the West Florida volleyball team will again auction off their pink jerseys worn in the match to help raise money for breast cancer awareness. The auction is open online and will run until Monday, Nov. 1 at 9 a.m. CST. There will also be four pink autographed game balls that fans may also bid on. Fans can place bids on any of these items by visiting the 2010 Pack It Pink link on the volleyball page on GoArgos.com. Bids start at $25.00.
This year’s event also coincides with the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Mall to Mall Walk. The Mall to Mall Walk will begin at 8 a.m., with the Dig Pink game against Alabama-Huntsville starting at 2 p.m. The volleyball team will walk as a team in the event, along with former UWF volleyball players.
