Argonaut Weekly - Week 11 Recap

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida volleyball team won its third straight Gulf South Conference championship to highlight a busy weekend in UWF Athletics.  The Argos soccer teams had their seasons come to an end at the NCAA Tournament, while the UWF basketball teams tipped off on the road.  Finally, the UWF cross country teams will compete at the NCAA South Regional this Saturday in Huntsville, Ala.

Elliott Purdom
Men’s Soccer
Senior Goalkeeper

Senior Elliott Purdom (Wilmslow, England/Viterbo) made three saves in UWF’s 1-0 loss at No. 5 Rollins in the first round of the NCAA South Regional on Friday.  Purdom finished his two-year career at UWF with a goals against average of 0.98, the second best mark in school history.  The English keeper also finished with 10 shutouts, ranking him tied for fourth in UWF men’s soccer history.

Abby Timmer
Freshman Middle Hitter

Freshman Abby Timmer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) had a standout weekend for UWF in the GSC Tournament.  The freshman had four blocks in Friday’s quarterfinals win over Henderson State, and she added nine more blocks in the semifinals against Harding and again nine in the championship match against North Alabama.  Timmer, one of four all-tournament team picks for UWF, became just the second West Florida volleyball player to record nine or more blocks in two different matches, and she did it all in one day.
