Argonaut Weekly - Week 31 Recap

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Gulf South Conference championships for the West Florida men’s golf and women’s tennis teams highlighted the past week in UWF Athletics.  The women’s tennis team won its 11th in school history, and the men’s golf claimed its 10th.  The two conference trophies also gave UWF 59 GSC championships across all sports, passing Troy for the all-time lead in the GSC’s 40-year history.  Meanwhile, both the UWF baseball and softball teams will play their final regular season games at home this weekend.

Caitlyn Baines
Women’s Tennis

For the second time in her career, junior Caitlyn Baines (Ft. Walton Beach, Fla./Choctawhatchee HS) clinched the deciding point in the Gulf South Conference Tournament finals, as the Argonauts defeated North Alabama 5-0 to win the program’s 11th league title on Sunday.  Baines picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 singles position, giving UWF the deciding fifth point in the championship victory.

Jason Postill
Senior Pitcher

Senior Jason Postill (Orlando, Fla./Tallahassee CC) was dominant in eight scoreless innings at Alabama-Huntsville, leading the Argonauts to a series-opening 8-0 win.  The right-hander struck out 10 in eight innings, and he gave up just three hits and one walk.  Postill stayed undefeated with the win, improving to 10-0 on the season, and he also leads the team with a 1.75 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 77.1 innings pitched.
