Awards Banquet Highlights 2010-11 Season
UWF Recognizes 12 All-Americans, 48 All-GSC Players
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida athletic department celebrated the success of the 2010-11 season on Wednesday, April 20 at the school’s season-ending Athletic Awards Banquet. The event was a rousing success and a fitting end to yet another top-notch season.
The event began with a welcome message by Director of Athletics Dave Scott and ended with an inspiring speech by UWF President Dr. Judith Bense. In between, Master of Ceremonies Brett Berg led the Argonaut coaches, supporters and student-athletes in a stirring ceremony that highlighted the many accomplishments of the Argonaut teams over the past season.
UWF athletic teams captured five Gulf South Conference championships in 2010-11, giving the school 59 championships across all sports, a Conference record. The school also produced 48 All-GSC performers, 12 All-Americans, three GSC Players of the Year and one National Player of the Year, women’s soccer star Shakira Duncan.
Seniors Zach North (baseball) and Taylor Brewster (women’s tennis) were honored with Scholar-Athlete Awards for their fine work in the classroom. Along with North and Brewster, ten student-athletes were recognized as GSC All-Academic Team performers.
Finally, UWF recognized 25 graduating seniors at the event, with Dr. Chula King, UWF Provost, presenting the student-athletes with their graduation stoles.
