Twelve Argonauts Make GSC All-Academic Team
UWF Quintet Earns Unanimous Selections
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Twelve student-athletes from the University of West Florida were named to the Gulf South Conference Spring All-Academic Team, the Conference office announced today. Among the dozen, five UWF athletes earned the distinction of being unanimous All-Academic selections.
Baseball stalwarts Eric Kroll, Tyler Hastings and Zach North were named All-Academic selections. All three were key contributors on UWF’s NCAA Division II National Championship team, while North and Kroll were unanimous picks. North, who boasts a 3.97 GPA, was the recipient of the NCAA Elite 88 Award as the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the NCAA Division II National Baseball Championship.
Carlos Rodriguez was the lone Argonaut honoree on the men’s golf squad. Rodriguez was the medalist at the 2011 GSC Tournament and was also a 2010 All-Academic pick.
From softball, Kaley Kania, Amber Ingram and Crystal Thompson earned All-Academic nods. Kania and Ingram were equally impressive on the field, earning 1st team All-GSC laurels.
Sean Gunnels and Mike Lue represent UWF on the men’s tennis squad. Both Argonauts were unanimous selections.
Three UWF student-athletes were selected to the women’s tennis All-Academic squad. Taylor Brewster, the 2011 GSC East Division Player of the Year, was a unanimous selection and earned her third GSC All-Academic honor. Teammates Jacqueline March and Naomi Higa also earned a spot on the team for their classroom prowess.
In addition to UWF's 12 All-Academic Team selections, 35 Argos were named to the GSC Honor Roll for posting a GPA of 3.00 or higher this season.
