UWF Earns Top-40 Finish in Directors' Cup Standings
Argonauts Finish Tops Among GSC Schools
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The University of West Florida athletic department finished 33rd in the final Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings, it was announced today. The award, which uses final positions in NCAA Division II postseason tournaments to award points, is presented by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
Grand Valley State University, out of Michigan, won their eighth consecutive Directors’ Cup after finishing the competition with 1057.50 points. The Lakers were followed by Central Missouri, Augustana (S.D.), Abilene Christian (Tex.) and Adams State (Colo.) in the top-5.
UWF finished with 378.00 points, tops among Gulf South Conference schools. The next-highest GSC institution, North Alabama, finished in 81st position, nearly 50 spots behind the Argonauts.
The award is yet more proof of UWF’s athletic stranglehold in GSC competition. In May, UWF was awarded the GSC’s Women’s All-Sports Trophy, their sixth straight, while finishing second in the race for the GSC Men’s All-Sports Trophy.
The Argonauts gained points from the sports of baseball, men’s golf, men’s tennis and women’s tennis. Each of the four UWF teams advanced to NCAA postseason play, with the baseball team capturing the school’s sixth national championship across all sports.
