West Florida Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honor

NEW ORLEANS – Not only did the West Florida women’s cross country team reach new heights in 2011, but the Argonauts did so while performing well in the classroom. The Argonauts earned United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team status, as announced by the USTFCCCA.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have tallied a team score at the NCAA Regional Championships. UWF posted a team GPA of 3.01, led by the performances of USTFCCCA All-Academic runners Ruth Ashley, Aimee Marsh and Renea Porsch.
The Argonauts placed second at the NCAA South Regional, advancing to the national meet for the first time in school history. Of the 24 teams that participated in the national final, 21 of those teams earned USTFCCCA All-Academic status. Seven of eight regional champion teams also earned the nod.
Individuals from the UWF cross country teams will compete at the Southern Mississippi Invitational on March 10, the first of five track meets on the spring schedule for the Argonauts. For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
