SAINT LEO, Fla. – The West Florida men’s soccer team gave up a goal late in the first half and failed to find an equalizer in a 1-0 loss at Saint Leo (2-0) in the team’s 2012 season opener.  The Argonauts will look to recover from the loss in their next contest, the home opener on Friday, Sept. 7 against No. 20 Rollins.

Despite the loss, the Argonauts finished the evening with 14 shots compared to 12 for the Lions.  Stephen Munoz (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary HS) and James Moore (Manchester, England/Cumberlands) led the way with three shots each.

Of Saint Leo’s 12 shots, seven were on frame, including Frank Bayabanen’s goal in the 39th minute.  Bayabanen connected on a left-footed attempt off a cross from Daniel Valdez, who was credited with an assist.

Ramon Sealy (Bodden Town, Cayman Islands) tallied six saves in goal for UWF, while SLU keeper Manuel Schoenhuber denied three shots while posting the shutout.

Along with their statistical advantage in shots, the Argos were also awarded 11 corner kicks to their opponents’ three.  Eight of those 11 corner kicks were in the second half, but UWF was unable to come through with a goal.  The Argos had a flurry of chances in the last 10 minutes, including three corners and four shots.

The Argos will look to even their record on Friday in their home opener against No. 20 Rollins.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and fans can follow all the action live at www.GoArgos.com.
