HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of West Florida women’s cross country team finished third out of 10 teams at the Fleet Feet Invitational in Huntsville, Ala. this weekend. The team finished three points out of second place behind the University of Montevallo.

“This was a great opportunity early on in the season to compete against the top women’s teams in our conference,” head coach John Bergen said. “We really like the performances we’ve gotten so far. This should set us up to do well down the stretch.”

Senior Sabrina Seignemartin crossed the finish line first for the Argonauts, setting a personal-best time on a 5,000-meter course (19:50.00). This was her second consecutive meet to start the year with a personal record. Seignemartin’s first sub-20 minute time of her career was good enough for seventh-place overall.

“Sabrina has been a runner who has improved since the first day she came on campus,” Bergen said. “She is a perfect example of someone putting in hard work and getting results in one of her best races to date.”

Freshman Jessica Gillard finished second for UWF and 15th overall (20:36.10). The Tallahassee, Fla. native set a personal-best time in the 5,000-meter race by 14 seconds, bettering her previous time set at the USF Invite last weekend. Fellow first-year runner Chelsea Humbert finished third for the Argos, and 17th overall (20:38.30)

Senior Karyssa Tourelle-Fallon finished just behind Humbert in her first race of the season. Tourelle-Fallon finished 18th overall and fourth for the Argonauts (20:39.10).

Freshman Virna Trinidad’s fifth-place finish rounded out the top-five scorers for UWF. Trinidad finished 25th overall (21:06.70).

The Argonauts will head to Moblie, Ala. next weekend for the USA Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama. For information on all UWF athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
