UWF women's cross country finishes fifth in a deep field
Junior Renea Porsch finishes 23rd in a field packed with Division I opponents

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of West Florida
women’s cross country team finished fifth out of 15 teams at the Azalea City
Classic meet in Mobile, Ala. Three UWF runners finished in the top-30 at the
Brookley Pines Golf Course on Saturday.
“This was a great early season test for us to
run a 6,000-meter race against some very good Division I schools and two of the
top teams in our region,” head coach John Bergen said. “We were very pleased
with how we ran. We got out to a fast start with a very deep field and hung on
strong.”
Senior Renea Porsch finished 23rd
overall and was the first Argonaut to cross the finish line (23:52.41). Senior
Sabrina Seignemartin set her third-consecutive personal best time to start the
2012 season. Seignemartin bettered her previous 6,000-meter time by more than
12 seconds and finished 27th overall (24:07.47). Sophomore Kelley Bahn
finished 30th overall and was third for UWF (24:21.17).
“Renea ran a very solid race today,” Bergen
said. “Sabrina and Keyanna ran very smart races today as well, and it was good
to see them all compete so well against a very deep field.”
Sophomore Keyanna Dennis was the fourth
Argonaut across the finish line and finished 37th overall. Freshman
Chelsea Humbert finished fifth for the Argonauts and 38th overall (24:56.33)
in a field of 115 runners.
The Argonauts will play host to the Gulf Coast Stampede next weekend at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Fla. This will be the only home meet of the season for UWF. For information on all UWF athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
