No. 24 West Florida remains undefeated in GSC play, tops UAH 3-0

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The No. 24 West Florida volleyball team finished their undefeated weekend with a 3-0 win over Alabama-Huntsville in Gulf South Conference action at the UWF Field House on Sunday. The Argos swept their third match of the weekend, taking the win with scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-18.
The Argos (6-5, 3-0 GSC) used a balanced offensive output, as four different players tallied seven or more kills. Christine Bach (Jacksonville, Fla./Florida State College at Jacksonville) led the team with a .385 hitting percentage, totaling seven kills with just two errors in 13 attempts. Lindsay Homme (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS) led the team with 10 total kills, marking her seventh straight match with 10 or more.
On defense, the Argos limited UAH (5-6, 0-2 GSC) to a .176 hitting percentage. Colleen Stars (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) led the effort with 17 digs, while Homme had two solo blocks.
UAH started well in the first set, jumping out to an 8-3 lead. The Argos battled back and tied the set 10-10 on a kill by Haley Shackelford (Colorado Springs, Colo./Yavapai), forcing the Chargers to take their first timeout. The teams kept battling until another tied score at 16-16. From that point on the Argos finished the set on a 9-2 run, picking up a 25-18 win.
In the second set, UWF took a 7-3 lead early, but it was the Chargers who came back to narrow the gap. UAH kept battling, and eventually took a 20-19 lead on a kill by Kelsey Williams. The Argos then scored six of the next eight points, finishing the set with a 25-21 win.
The Argos cruised through most of the final set, jumping out to an 11-point lead at 22-11 on a block by Bach and Jenny Bellairs (Osage, Iowa/Southeast Missouri State). The Chargers showed some fight, battling back and denying three match points. On their fourth try, however, the Argos finished the match on Shackelford’s seventh kill of the afternoon.
Olivia Bauman had a strong effort for the Chargers, totaling a team-high nine kills with a .318 hitting percentage. Stacey Sargent totaled 12 digs.
