Moving Up in National Rankings
West Florida catapulted up the rankings in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Preseason Poll by making a leap from No. 24 to No. 17. UWF swept all three of its matches last weekend in open GSC play undefeated.

UWF Opens GSC Play in Dominant Fashion
The shift from two to three conference matches in a weekend did not phase the Argonauts, who still took down all three opponents 3-0 to open GSC action. West Florida easily handed West Georgia and Shorter their first GSC losses of 2012 and followed suit with a solid victory over Alabama-Huntsville.

Homme Picks Up GSC Offensive Player of the Week
The spear point of West Florida’s attack on its opening weekend of undefeated GSC play, Lindsay Homme amassed 37 kills in nine sets for 4.41 kills per frame at a .412 attack rate. Her stellar performance, which included 15 kills against Shorter as the weekend-high, extended her streak of double-figure kills to seven consecutive matches.

The Streak Continues
The Argonauts have continued to show their strength across multiple seasons in the GSC as they ride a 23 match winning streak against conference opponents dating to Oct. 9, 2010. UWF has lost just three conference matches since 2007, which includes undefeated years in 2007, 2008 and 2011.

Conference Action on the Road
This weekend the Argonuats play their first road GSC matches of 2012 when they face Christian Brothers, Union and North Alabama. UWF is undefeated all-time against the Buccaneers, who come into the match as the only other unbeaten team in GSC play. The contest with conference newcomer Union is the first between the programs, and UWF will look to come within one match of evening up the all-time record against North Alabama.

Argonauts Upset Top Team in the Nation
West Florida volleyball pulled off a major upset at the Colorado Premier Challenge by starting the tournament with a 3-1 defeat of then-No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul. It is the Golden Bears’ only loss of the season, who dropped to No. 3 nationally in this week’s AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll. It was the first time in UWF’s history they defeated Concordia-St. Paul.

Scott & Hansen Jump into UWF Record Books
Sarah Scott and Sierra Hansen had record performances against Regis and West Texas A&M. Scott stuffed a career-high 13 digs, two solo, against No. 7 West Texas A&M and tied assistant coach Patricia Gandolfo’s mark of blocks in a match, which is second all-time. Hansen contributed a career-best 59 assists against Regis, which is good for seventh all-time in program history for assists in a match.
