UWF men's cross country finishes third at home meet

Sophomore Cody Haden finishes sixth in a field of 93 runners

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida played host to the 2012 Gulf Coast Stampede Saturday morning at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Fla. The meet featured 198 student-athletes from 13 schools across the southeast region.

Sophomore Cody Haden led the Argonauts on the day with a sixth-place finish (26:46.90) on the 8,000-meter course, helping UWF to a third-place finish out of nine teams. Senior Martinique Sykes finished 13th overall (27:04.80) while fellow senior Dominique Sykes finished 20th (27:29.40).

“Today we didn’t get the results we wanted,” Sykes said. “Overall I don’t think we ran as well as we thought we would on our home course. It has been really refreshing though to see Cody (Haden) run so well this year. He has continued to improve from last season and has really helped our team out this year.”

Sophomore Roman Kowalski and freshman Taylor Hickey rounded out the top-five finishers for the Argonauts on the day with 22nd and 31st place finishes, respectively.
