Volleyball uses dominant performance to sweep Union
Argonauts set a school record for team attack percentage
JACKSON, Tenn. – The No. 17 West Florida volleyball team squelched any questions following their first Gulf South Conference loss by setting a school record in attack percentage against Union Saturday for a commanding 3-0 sweep (25-8, 25-10, 25-16) in GSC play.
The Argonauts (7-6, 4-1 GSC) used a .600 clip as a team to handily dispatch of the Lady Bulldogs (3-5, 0-2 GSC) in their first meeting all-time. Lindsay Homme (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS) also checked into the record books with 12 kills at a .733 rate which ranks seventh all-time for kill percentage in a single match.
Sarah Scott (Plainfield, Ill./Texas-San Antonio), Haley Shackelford (Colorado Springs, Colo./Yavapai) and Autumn Duyn (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) had seven kills apiece, each at a .545 clip or higher. K.C. Dobbins (Winston-Salem, N.C./Arkansas) had 17 assists and Colleen Starrs (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) had nine digs.
Duyn held service for a match-high eight straight points following a five point spree to give UWF a huge 25-8 win in the first set. Two kills by Homme and Shackelford and a service ace by Dobbins pushed West Florida’s advantage to 14-4 the next frame and the Argonauts coasted to a 25-10 victory by scoring the set’s final five points.
The closest of the match, the third set saw Union just three points back 16-13 before the Argonauts benefitted from multiple attack errors to run away with the match, ending 25-16 on a service ace by Scott.
