UWF keeps rolling, defeats DSU 4-1
Argos improve to 8-0 as Campbell scores twice

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Sashana Campbell (Manchester, Jamaica/Darton) picked up a pair of goals, and the No. 4 Argonaut women’s soccer remained undefeated with a 4-1 victory over the Lady Statesmen Sunday afternoon.
West Florida (8-0, 4-0 Gulf South Conference) outshot DSU 26-5 and placed 15 shots on target in the dominating victory.
Campbell got on the board early when Daniela Cruz (San Jose, Costa Rice/University of Costa Rica) sent a header from just outside the middle circle to Campbell who was making a run at the top of the box. She worked past a defender and shot past a diving keeper for the score with 14:29 on the clock.
Later in the half, Shelby Bush (Shalimar, Fla./Darton) flicked a pass to Campbell at the top of the box, and Campbell shot quickly to put UWF up 2-0 at the 30:05 mark.
In just her second game of the season, Monica Malavassi (San Jose, Costa Rica/University of Costa Rica) got on the board when she worked with teammate Julianne Gaubron (Niceville, Fla./Niceville HS) on a give-and-go inside the box to put the Argos up 3-0.
UWF added one more when Bush worked the ball into the box and sent a powerful shot into the hands of the DSU keeper at the 54:16 mark. The ball rebounded back in front of Bush who made her second shot count for her team-high seventh goal of the season.
With most of the UWF starters out of the game, DSU prevented a shutout when Payten Pearson sent a through ball to Lauren May who shot passed the Argos’ backup keeper Kylie Wilson (Jacksonville, Fla./Clay HS) for the goal.
The Argos will look to keep their eight-game winning streak alive against Alabama-Huntsville on the road on Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.
