UWF climbs to No. 2 in national poll
Women’ soccer team rises two spots in latest NSCAA/Continental Tires Division II poll
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – After remaining undefeated while outscoring opponents 6-1 last weekend, the West Florida women’s soccer team rose from No. 4 to No. 2 in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tires Division II poll. UWF remained No. 1 in the South Region for the third consecutive week.
The Argonauts (8-0, 4-0 Gulf South Conference) were one of seven teams in NCAA Division II to remain undefeated as of Sept. 23. The defending NCAA national champion, the College of Saint Rose (6-0-1), rose back to the No. 1 from No. 3 last week after two wins.
Previous No. 1 Grand Valley State (7-0-2) fell to No. 8 after tying unranked Saginaw Valley State 0-0 last week. Previous No. 2 Sonoma State fell all the way to No. 20 after losing to then-ranked No. 21 Cal State Stanislaus 4-1.
North Alabama was the only other GSC team ranked in the poll. The Lions, who the Argos defeated 4-1 on Sept. 16, rose from No. 22 to No. 21 in the latest poll.
The Argos were ranked No. 14 in the NCAA as of Sept. 23 in scoring offense with 3.13 goals per game. Argo Shelby Bush (Shalimar Fla./Darton) was tied for 19th in Division II with 17 points this season
UWF has outscored opponents 25-6 this season and outshot opponents 162-74.
The Argos will continue GSC play on the road this weekend, with games against Alabama-Huntsville Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. and Shorter Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. Pensacola time. They will return home for a homecoming game against West Alabama on Oct. 5 and play No. 9 Armstrong on Oct. 8.
