Women's tennis team begins play at USTA/ITA South Regional
Women’s team goes 4-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles in opening day
LAKELAND, Fla. – The West Florida women’s tennis team fared well in the first day of competition at the USTA/ITA South Regional hosted by Florida Southern Thursday at the Beermann Family Tennis Center.
The Argonauts went a combined 4-2 in singles competition and 2-1 in doubles competition at the time the first edition of results were released Thursday night.
After winning their opening-round singles matches, Mariana Sonnervig (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Ateneu HS) and Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) were eliminated in the second round.
Luiza Sonnervig (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Ateneu HS) also won her opening-round match but the result of her second-round match was not available when the first edition of the results was released.
UWF’s Giovana Patitucci received a first-round bye, but her second-round match was not completed when results were released.
In doubles, Mariana and Luiza Sonnervig won their opening-round match but results were not available for their second-round match. Amaral and Patitucci received a first-round bye, but were defeated in the second round.
Friday’s matches will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center on the Florida Southern campus.
