West Florida wins third straight in 3-1 victory at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The West Florida men’s soccer team remained unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play after a 3-1 win at Alabama-Huntsville on Friday afternoon. The Argonauts controlled the flow of the game, outshooting UAH 27-4 on their way to victory.
Just five minutes into the game, lightning was detected in the area and play was halted. After a 30-minute delay, the Argonauts (4-2-1, 3-0-1 GSC) were the first to get on the scoreboard with a goal in the 35th minute. Senior Richard Dixon (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach HS) took advantage of an opportunity, scoring off assists by Dillon Gallet (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS) and Fernando Silveira (Brasilia, Brazil/Lincoln Memorial).
The Argos added a second goal four minutes later, as Silveira has a shot saved by UAH goalkeeper Michael Winstone after a serve on a free kick, and defender Patrick Zimmer (Bad Gandersheim, Germany/Roswitha Gymnasium) was in position to touch it in on the rebound.
UAH (1-8, 0-5 GSC) responded less than a minute later, taking advantage of a defensive misplay by the Argos to score their only goal at the 39:43 mark. Ragnar Leosson was the goal-scorer for the Chargers, and he was assisted by Kyle Simmons.
The Argos added an insurance goal in the 80th minute, as freshman Felipe Oliveira (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway HS) tallied a goal in his third straight game. He received a pass in front of the net from Igor Dias (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Western Texas), who received the ball off a cross by Gallet off the right sideline.
