Argos fall in final round of doubles and singles
Bruno Savi and Kevin Ducros/Tony Rajaobelina lost in the final round of the USTA/ITA South Regional Sunday
LAKELAND, Fla. – West Florida men’s tennis player Bruno Savi (Santana do Livramento, Brazil/Auburn Montgomery) lost 3-6, 6-1, retired after an injury in the final round of the USTA/ITA South Regional singles competition Sunday at the Florida Southern campus.
The duo of Kevin Ducros (Aix-en-Provence, France) and Tony Rajaobelina lost 6-2, 6-2 in the doubles final.
Savi, the No. 3 seed, had won four matches after receiving a first-round bye to open the tournament and Ducros/Rajaobelina had won three matches.
Going into the final round Savi had not lost a singles set at the tournament.
Ducros/Rajaobelina, the No. 3 seed in doubles, had won their past two matches 8-4 and won their first match 8-2.
It was Ducroses second appearance in the final round of a USTA/ITA South Regional. He and teammate Leandro Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Antonio Afonso) won the event in the fall of 2009.
The singles champion, Willi Wolfer of Lynn University, and the doubles champions, Fabian Groetsch and Marco Mokrzycki of Barry University, will advance to the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships on Oct. 11-14 at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
