No. 2 UWF falls to No. 7 Armstrong 2-1
Pirates snap the Argos' 11-game winning streak with two goals in the second half

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 2 West Florida Argonauts lost 2-1 to No. 7 Armstrong Monday afternoon at the UWF Soccer Complex, snapping an 11-game winning streak and a 14-game unbeaten streak dating back to last season.
The Argos (11-1-0, 5-0-0 Gulf South Conference) allowed two goals within three minutes of each other in the second half as the Pirates (9-1-1) held on late for the win.
The two teams went back-and-forth early in the first half, and neither team decisively controlled the ball more than the other. Both teams finished the first half with six shots each.
Armstrong got things going in the second half when Nadima Skeff crossed the ball from the side of the box into the box, and the UWF defense scrambled to clear it but inadvertently deflected it into their own goal at the 59:58 mark.
The Pirates took advantage of the momentum shift, and just minutes later Emily Cattanach sent a corner into the box to Morgan Mitchell who headed it to Kristina Pascutti who shot for the score at the 62:18 mark.
The Argos fought back, however, scrambling to win the momentum back and defend their home turf. UWF got an opportunity with 76:15 on the clock when Rachel Cutts (Pace, Fla./Pace HS) sent a free kick from midfield to Shelby Bush (Shalimar, Fla./Darton) in the box who deflected it into the net to cut the lead to 2-1.
With the momentum in their favor, UWF scrambled to make one more count before the clock expired. But, the Pirate defense was too strong as every Argo attack was cleared away.
The Argos will look to get back in the win column on Oct. 12 when they host West Georgia in a GSC match at 7:30 p.m.
