Rajendranth ties for seventh at Guy Harvey Invitational

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – After improving by nine strokes from the first day with identical scores in the final two rounds, the No. 14 West Florida men’s golf team finished the Guy Harvey Invitational in eighth place Tuesday on the par-72, 6,868 yard Champion Course at the PGA National Resort and Spa.

Despite the second round resuming with approximately five holes remaining Tuesday morning due to inclement weather, Talin Rajendranath (San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago/Naparima College) ended with West Florida’s lowest score of the season with a four-under-par 68. He followed up with an even-par 72 to tie for seventh, the freshman’s lowest finish of his collegiate career at 215 total.

Juan Miguel Heredia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Jacksonville State) and Spencer Olson (Pensacola, Fla./Pace HS) wrapped up the tournament with identical rounds of 74 to tie for 32nd and 37th, respectively. Kyle Lucas (Johannesburg, South Africa/Western Texas College) improved nearly 20 positions overall from the first round to shoot 229 total and tie for 47th, and Gary Buffington III carded UWF’s second-lowest round of the day, 73, to tie for 50th individually.

The Argonauts made a strong comeback from the first round with back-to-back scores of 293 to move up one place overall and end eighth with 888 total. Nova Southeastern cruised to victory with three sub-par rounds for a combined 848, defeating runner-up Barry by 10 strokes. Nova Southeastern’s Ian Facey took medalist honors with a total of 207.

West Florida faces a big test next Monday when it plays in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala., which is hosted by last year’s Division I national runner-up Alabama. For information on all UWF athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
