Argos add nine to men's basketball roster

UWF adds six transfers and three freshmen for the 2012-2013 season

PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida men’s basketball coach Bob Stinnett has announced the addition of nine student-athletes to the Argonaut roster for the 2012-2013 season. In his fourth season as head coach, Stinnett recruited six transfers and three freshmen.

Hailing from Cocoa, Fla., senior Tracy Williams (Clayton State/Cocoa HS) will look to add experience at guard to the Argo roster after playing for two years at Indian River State College where he averaged 18.6 points per game as a freshman, 13.6 as a sophomore and 6.8 assists per game from 2005-2007.

From 2007-2088 Williams played at Clayton State where he led the Lakers to a Peach Belt Conference championship, earning the tournament’s MVP and averaging 10 points and 4.8 assists per game.

Terrence Townes (Danville, Va./Gulf Coast State) comes to UWF after averaging 11.5 points per game and a 33.3 percent shooting percentage from long-range while hitting 31 three-pointers for Gulf Coast last season. His freshmen year he averaged 13.1 points.

Ellis Young III (Merritt Island, Fla./Brevard CC) joins the Argos after spending two seasons at Brevard as a guard and a forward. Young averaged 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest and was named to the all-conference first team last season. He was second team all-conference as a freshman while averaging 10 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Jonathon Gac (Chicago/Loyola University Chicago) comes to UWF after playing in his hometown for two seasons after high school. Gac saw action in 26 games for Division I Loyola Chicago and averaged 7.5 minutes per game while totaling 53 points and shooting 57.9 percent from the field.

Lawrence Certain (Gainesville, Fla./Southern University) will look to earn his first collegiate playing time after redshirting at Southern University last season. While at Flagler Palm Coast High School, Certain averaged 17 points and seven rebounds per game.

Rounding out the transfers is Dorrell Petties (Calgary, Alberta /Seattle). While at Notre Dame High School in Calgary, Petties played point guard and shooting guard.

Leading a talented group of freshmen is Jason Laatsch (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian School). Laatsch set school records in career points (1,404) and three-pointers (197) and in three-pointers in a season (73) at Briarwood Christian School. His senior year he averaged 18.2 points, five assists and four rebounds per game.

Laatsch was a three-time MVP and two-time Offensive MVP while being named to All-Area teams and All-County teams three times.

Joining Laatsch is Justin Williams (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon HS). Williams averaged 11 points, three rebounds and two assists per game as a senior.

Rounding out the freshmen class is Harrison Jenkins (Olrando, Fla./Olympia HS). Jenkins was a two-year letterman as a guard at Olympia.

The Argos will play their first game of the season Nov. 9 against Palm Beach Atlantic at the UWF tip-off classic at 4 p.m.
