HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Using an offensive attack that ranks among the top performances in program history, the No. 23 West Florida volleyball team completed a flawless weekend with a 3-0 win over Alabama-Huntsville to claim its 10th Gulf South Conference match this season.
West Florida (14-6, 10-1 GSC) hit .391 as a team with six Argonauts hitting .300 or better for the match. The attack percentage is 11th all-time for UWF, and helped it to its third straight GSC series sweep of the season.
Haley Shackelford (Colorado Springs, Colo./Yavapai) was the only player for the match to have double-digit kills with 15 at a .519 clip for the second time this weekend. Sierra Hansen (Layton, Utah/Southern Idaho) had 23 assists and Autumn Duyn (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) had 13 digs.
Both teams traded points to begin the match before the Argonauts rattled off a 12-2 run that included six kills by Shackelford to own a huge 23-12 advantage. UWF allowed two more points by the Chargers (10-12, 4-6 GSC) before ending the set 25-14.
A 5-0 spree midway through the second set gave West Florida a comfortable 14-8 cushion which they added to with small runs throughout the frame to win 25-16. The Argonauts capped the match with one of the most dominant performances this season that used three separate runs of five, six and seven consecutive points to prevent the Chargers from reaching double-digits and take the game 25-9.
