UWF ranked No. 1 in first set of NCAA regional rankings
Argonaut women’s soccer team is 13-1-0 against regional opponents this season

INDIANAPOLIS – The West Florida women’s soccer team was ranked No. 1 in the South Region in the first set of NCAA Regional rankings released by the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Committee Thursday.
The top six teams in the South Region advance to the postseason with the top two seeds receiving a first-round bye and hosting the first two rounds of the postseason.
The Argonauts have been ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA/Continental Tires South Regional rankings for six consecutive weeks. In addition, UWF was ranked No. 4 in the nation in the latest NSCAA rankings.
UWF is 13-1-0 this season and, all 14 games were played against In-Region opponents. Three teams from the Sunshine States Conference were ranked in the top four, with Rollins (8-4-1, 7-3-1 In-Region) at No. 2, Tampa (9-3-1, 8-3-1) at No. 3 and Florida Tech (4-4-2, 4-4-2) at No. 4.
GSC school Valdosta State (10-2-2, 10-2-2) was No. 5 and SSC Florida Southern (5-5-2, 5-5-2) rounded out the final qualifying spot at No. 6 in the first set of rankings.
The Argos have defeated three teams in the top six, with a 2-1 victory over Rollins on Sept. 7, a 4-2 victory over Florida Southern on Sept. 9, and a 1-0 victory over Valdosta State on Oct. 14.
UWF’s only loss came against Southeast Region No. 1 Armstrong. Games against opponents in a bordering state count as a regional match, although the team may be in a different region.
The Argos are on a three-game winning streak and have won their past 14 regular-season games against South Region opponents dating back to last season.
UWF travels to play West Alabama Sunday at 1 p.m. before finishing the regular season on the road against West Georgia and Valdosta State on Oct. 26 and 28.
