Haden Setting the Pace This Season
Sophomore Cody Haden has crossed the finish line first for the Argonauts three times this year after earning All-GSC Second Team honors as a freshman last season. Haden kicked off the year by setting a personal-best time on an 8,000-meter course at the USF Invite in San Francisco, Calif. The sophomore has improved his time from last season’s GSC Championship by over a minute and has finished first for UWF in his previous two 8,000-meter races.
M. Sykes Hits Stride Heading Into Postseason
Senior Martinique Sykes, along with Haden, has not finished outside the top two finishers for UWF this season. Last week Sykes crossed the finish line first at the Chili Pepper Festival 10,000-meter race in Fayetteville, Ark. Sykes also set a personal-best time on an 8,000-meter course at the USF Invite, and has finished runner-up for UWF in his three previous races.
D. Sykes Gaining Ground
After dealing with injuries entering his senior season, senior Dominique Sykes has re-established himself as a top-finisher heading into the final stretch of the season. Sykes has finished third for UWF at the three previous 8,000-meter races after starting the season by finishing 8th on the team at 66th overall at the USF Invite. Sykes has shaved nearly a minute off his time from the first 8,000-meter race of the season, and will look to earn back-to-back All-GSC First Team honors this weekend in Hoover, Ala.
UWF Returns Five Top-20 Finishers
Last season, UWF’s team score was based on five runners who will all be returning for this weekend’s conference meet. Haden, D. Sykes and M. Sykes, along with senior Eddie Pagan and sophomore Chris Roach will be looking to earn the programs third GSC title this weekend.
