GAME NOTES: Women's cross country looks for back-to-back conference titles
Argonauts return five top-20 conference finishers from last season’s squad for this weekend’s GSC championship

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women’s cross country team will look to defend their conference title this Saturday at the 2012 Gulf South Conference Championships at 9:00 a.m. in Hoover, Ala.
Last season UWF earned the programs second GSC Championship and had two runners finish in the top-10 and three others in the top-20. The Argonauts return all five runners to the course this weekend as UWF looks to earn their third GSC title in program history.
The Argonauts are the highest ranked team in the south-region according to the latest United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association poll. Gulf South Conference opponents Alabama-Huntsville and West Georgia rank fourth and fifth, respectively, and will be a solid threat this weekend on the 5,000-meter course at Veteran’s Park.

GAMES NOTES: Women’s Cross Country
Tourelle-Fallon Looks for Third GSC Honor
Senior Karyssa Tourelle-Fallon returns to the conference postseason as a back-to-back top-10 finisher. The two-time GSC First-Team selection led the way for the Argonauts at last season’s conference championship. Tourelle-Fallon has finished in the top three for UWF at the last three meets this year, and will look to repeat as a top conference finisher this weekend in her final GSC Championship race.
Porsch: A Model of Consistency
Junior Renea Porsch has been solid this season for UWF, crossing the finish line first for the Argonauts in the previous four races. Porsch was recently named GSC Women’s Runner of the Week for her efforts last weekend at the Choctaw Open. Porsch finished 11th overall (19:17.17) on the 5,000-meter course, her fastest time of the season.
‘65’
Last season the women’s cross country team’s GSC title made it West Florida’s 60th conference championship. This season the Argonauts will look to make it the schools 65th GSC Championship and the schools second women's cross country title in two season.
UWF Returns Five Top-20 Finishers
Last season, UWF’s GSC Championship winning team score was based on five runners who will all be returning for this weekend’s conference meet. Tourelle-Fallon and Porsch will be joined by fellow 2011 top-20 finishers Kelley Bahn, Aimee Marsh and Keyanna Dennis. In 2011, Bahn was the top freshman finisher last season and is primed for another top conference finish after finishing 14th overall (19:28.45) at last week’s Choctaw Open, her fastest 5,000-meter time of the season.
