Palmer earns 2nd GSC Player of the Week award of the season
Chelsea Palmer recorded two goals, including one game-winner, and two assists in two games last week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Chelsea Palmer (Plano, Texas/Tyler JC) was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season after recording two goals, including one game-winner, and two assists in two games last week.
Palmer scored the first goal of the game in a 6-0 victory over Shorter at the UWF Soccer Complex on Oct. 17, just 31 seconds into the game. She added an assist 12 minutes later on a ball that she crossed to Monica Malavassi (San Jose, Costa Rica/University of Costa Rica) in the box for the third goal of the game. Then, the Argonaut added one more goal just eight minutes after that when she intercepted the ball in the box at the 20:07 mark.
On Oct. 21 against West Alabama, Palmer recorded an assist at the 69:17 mark on a ball that she crossed to Brittanie Hensley (Enterprise, Ala./Enterprise HS).
Palmer leads the Argos with 11 assists on the season and is tied with Shelby Bush (Shalimar, Fla/Darton) for the team lead in goals with 11. She leads the GSC in assists and is tied with Bush for third in the conference in goals.
In addition, she leads UWF with 33 points and is tied for second in the GSC in points. Palmer is third in the GSC with four game-winning goals.
In the NCAA, Palmer is tied for ninth in Division II in assists per game (0.63) and tied for 18th in points per game (2).
Palmer was named the GSC Player of the Week on Oct. 2 when she recorded two goals and five assists in two games.
The Argos are on the road this weekend against West Georgia on Friday at 7 p.m. ET and Valdosta State Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET.
