Argonauts wrap up season tied for seventh, Heredia fourth
Heredia and Buffington III each shot sub-par 70s
BEALLSVILLE, Md. – With a final round one-under-par 70, Juan Miguel Heredia finished the Georgetown Intercollegiate strong Tuesday with a fourth place result to lead the No. 14 West Florida men’s golf team to a tie for seventh in the all-Division I field on the par-71, 6,953 yard The Member’s Club at Four Streams.
Heredia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Jacksonville State) finished one-under-par for the tournament totaling 212 to place a solo fourth individually, four strokes behind medalist Chris Selfridge from Toledo. The sophomore was matched by fellow Argonaut Gary Buffington III (Tampa, Fla./Chamberlain HS), who also fired 70 to tie for 38th at 225 total.
West Florida shot the second lowest round of the day, 288, to jump one spot overall and tie for seventh place with Eastern Michigan at a combined 881. Toledo held on to its first day lead to squeeze out the team title by two strokes over Notre Dame totaling 863.
Runner-up for the Argonauts was Spencer Olson (Pensacola, Fla./Pace HS) whose 76 tied him for 26th overall with 222 total. Talin Rajendranath (San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago/Naparima College) and Kyle Lucas (Johannesburg, South Africa/Western Texas College) completed UWF’s lineup carding identical rounds of 74 to tie for 48th and 56th, respectively, shooting 227 and 230 total.
The Argonauts completed their fall season with the conclusion of the Georgetown Intercollegiate. They resume action in February at the Matlock Collegiate Classic. For information on all UWF athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
