Argos take on Delta State in annual game to promote breast cancer awareness
PENSACOLA. Fla. – The West Florida women’s basketball team will host Delta State Thursday, Jan. 24 at 5 p.m. at the UWF Field House in its annual Play 4 Kay contest presented by Florida Blue, the official health care partner of UWF Athletics.
In lieu of admission to the game, UWF will be accepting donations for the Play 4 Kay Foundation. Fans are encouraged to wear pink, and the first 500 fans to the women’s game will receive a free car decal and free Play 4 Kay posters.
During the game, UWF will host basketball bingo for a chance to win gift cards from Whataburger, Pita Pit, Publix and Tom Thumb.
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded Dec. 3, 2007 in the name of the former North Carolina State University women’s basketball head coach. Yow, who won more than 700 games and is a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away after facing her third bout with the disease in 2009.
The fund has raised $7 million towards scientific research and related programs focused on women’s cancers.
