Hoellen Accepts Position with Wyle Laboratories

PENSACOLA, Fla. - West Florida Assistant Athletic Trainer David Hoellen has accepted the astronaut strength and conditioning and rehabilitation specialist position with Wyle Laboratories in Houston, Texas. Hoellen will be responsible for providing injury rehabilitation and physical fitness training programs for the Astronaut Corps.
Hoellen served as the assist athletic trainer at West Florida for the past year. Hoellen provided daily coverage for the men's soccer, women's soccer, and women's basketball programs at UWF. He assisted head trainer Tony Nguyen with day-to-day operations. Hoellen was a key contributor in the rehabilitation of student-athletes in the athletic training room.
"David has been a very valuable asset to the athletic department and we hate to see him leave," states Nguyen. "However this is a great opportunity for him, and we like the fact that he'll represent West Florida well. It's great exposure for the university."
After spending a year-and-a-half stint as head athletic trainer at Wayland Baptist University in Lubbock, TX, Hoellen returned to West Florida in the spring of 2005. Hoellen provided daily athletic training coverage for all Intercollegiate Athletics at Wayland Baptist through contract providers Vanguard Physical Therapy and Sportsmed, and HealthSouth.
He received a Master of Science Degree in exercise science in April of 2003 at West Florida. As a graduate assistant from August, 2001 to April, 2003, he provided daily coverage for the men's and women's soccer and baseball teams.
David received a Bachelor of Science Degree in community health education with an emphasis in athletic training from the University of Nebraska in 1999. He was the head student athletic trainer for his senior year.
In two separate duties with the NFL's New York Jets, Hoellen served as a summer intern in '99, and a seasonal intern in for the 2000-01 season. He also performed post-graduate internships in athletic training with Nebraska and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL.
