Game Notes: UWF concludes regular season at VSU

Argonauts look for a win before beginning play in the GSC Tournament

VALDOSTA, Ga. - The West Florida women's basketball team travels to Valdosta, Ga. for its final game of the regular season against Valdosta State.

The Argonauts have clinched the No. 2 seed in the GSC Tournament and the Lady Blazers have clinched the No. 6 seed. The teams are playing for bragging rights and for a chance to improve their seeding in the NCAA South Region rankings.

UWF defeated VSU 66-53 Jan. 17 in the first meeting between the teams in Pensacola, Fla. Last season, the teams split the regular season series, each winning a game on their home court. UWF is 11-3 at home and 7-4 on the road this year, and VSU is 10-5 at home.

South Region Rankings

UWF remained No. 5 in the second set of NCAA Regional Rankings announced by the NCAA Selection Committee.

The three champions of the Gulf South, Sunshine State and Southern Intercollegiate Athletics conferences receive automatic bids, and five additional at-large bids are awarded based on the rankings. The top seed selected in the rankings is given the opportunity to host the NCAA South Regional Tournament.

UWF was the second-highest ranked team from the GSC in the rankings, behind No. 1 Union and ahead of No. 9 Delta State.
