No. 1 West Florida men's tennis falls to No. 2 Hawaii Pacific 4-5

West Florida drops first match of the season in NCAA DII National Championship rematch

Pablo Borrero extends his winning streak to seven and improves to 3-0 against regionally ranked opponents.

LA JOLLA, Calif. –
The No. 1-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team fell No. 2 Hawaii Pacific 4-5 on the campus of UC San Diego on Friday afternoon. West Florida's (9-1, 4-0 GSC) winning streak dating back to February 7, 2014 ends at an impressive 38 straight matches.
 
Junior Warren Kuhn (Johannesburg, South Africa) and senior Elio Latella (Sydney, Australia) won 8-5 at number one doubles while junior Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and sophomore Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) won at number two doubles by a score of 8-3 as Peyrot notched his 25th career doubles victory.
 
Junior Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and sophomore Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia/Colegio) won at number three doubles 8-5.
 
No. 8 Peyrot fell at number one singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1 while Kuhn fell to No. 11 Thibaud Berland 7-6, 6-4 at number two singles.
 
No. 30 Brasil lost to No. 15 Jaume Martinez-Vich at number three singles 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 while Borrero won the lone singles match for West Florida at number four singles by a score of 6-3, 6-4. Borrero extends his winning streak to seven and improves to 3-0 against regionally ranked opponents on the year.
 
Latella fell at number five singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1 while sophomore Douglas Boe (Vinhedo, Brazil) lost 6-1, 7-5 at number six singles.
 
West Florida will next return to Pensacola, Florida for a 14-match home stretch and will start by facing a trio of ranked opponents next week. UWF will face No. 15 Midwestern State on Tuesday, March 17 at 1 p.m. CT before facing No. 8 Saint Leo on Wednesday, March 18 at 1 p.m. CT. West Florida will then face No. 20 Georgia College on Saturday, March 20 at 9:30 a.m. CT.
