LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 7-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team fell No. 6 Hawaii Pacific 3-6 on the campus of UC San Diego on Friday afternoon. West Florida's (7-2, 4-0 GSC) only loses this season have come to teams ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association top 10.
The No. 10-ranked doubles team of seniors
Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and
Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) fell at number one doubles 8-6 while junior
Nina Bubelova (Pova'sk' Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior
Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) lost 8-5 at number two doubles.
Senior
Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) and junior
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) fell at number three doubles by a score of 8-5.
No. 4 Kochanova fell at number one singles 7-5, 6-0 while Faure won at number two singles by a score of 7-5, 2-6, 10-3. Bubelova won at number three singles 6-2, 6-3 while Dikosavljevic fell at number four singles 7-5, 6-3.
Amaral fell at number five singles 6-2, 5-7, 10-4 while Fanchin won at number six singles 6-3, 6-1.
West Florida will next return to Pensacola, Florida for a 14-match home stretch and will start by facing four ranked opponents next week. UWF will face No. 18 Midwestern State on Tuesday, March 17 at 1 p.m. CT before facing No. 3 Saint Leo on Wednesday, March 18 at 1 p.m. CT. West Florida will then face No. 21 Northeastern State on Friday, March 19 at 1 p.m. CT before facing No. 26 Georgia College on Saturday, March 20 at 9:30 a.m. CT.
