Robert Lopez of the University of West Florida baseball team was recognized as Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week after an impressive showing during last weekend's series against Mississippi College.
It marks as the first Freshman of the Week award for UWF after obtaining nine Freshman of the Week honors in 2015.

Nic Strasser was honored four times during the 2015 campaign.
Lopez went 6-7 (.857) at the plate during the three-game series against Mississippi College while getting on base in 10 of 11 (.909) plate appearances. In game two of the series, Lopez launched a three-run home run to left field to help put an exclamation point on the Argos' five-run first inning. Lopez drove in five runs during UWF's 22-2 win against Mississippi College, a new 2016 team single-game high for the Argonauts. The freshman also stole a base while scoring four runs over the weekend.
The Lakeland native spent time at third base and shortstop during the weekend, receiving 12 opportunities in the field and did not making an error.
Lopez on the season is now slashing .346/.452/.615 with a pair of home runs and seven RBI. Lopez's .615 slugging percentage ranks in the GSC's top 25, while his two home runs puts him in a tie for 13
th in the conference.
Lopez and the UWF baseball are back in action tomorrow, February 24
th, for a midweek contest in Mobile against the Spring Hill College Badgers. First pitch is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start.
