PENSACOLA, Fla. – Seven University of West Florida student-athletes and both the men's and women's tennis teams earned academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Monday. Pablo Borrero, Pedro Roese and Carlos Moura earned ITA Scholar Athlete status on the men's side, while Nina Bubelova, Sarai Flores, Valeria Mantilla and Erica Eriksson were recipients for the women's team.
 
The ITA Scholar Athlete honor is the third for All-Gulf South Conference second-teamer Flores, who clinched the GSC championship for UWF against Valdosta State in April. Flores was also named to the Gulf South Conference FireSeeds Spring All-Academic team this year, in addition to being a member of the team in 2015.
 
Eriksson earned her second ITA academic honor, while Bubelova caps off an illustrious career at UWF with her first ITA academic award, having been named an All-GSC performer in each of her four seasons at the university. It is also the first honor for Mantilla, a freshman. All four student-athletes were named to the 2016 GSC FireSeeds Spring Academic Honor Roll.
 
Borrero, a 2016 All-GSC first team selection, earned the second ITA academic award of his career, following a spot on the GSC FireSeeds Spring All-Academic team. The ITA Academic award is the third for both Roese and Moura.
 
West Florida is one of just four GSC teams to earn the ITA All-Academic Team award on the women's side, and one of three among men's teams. The Argonauts join Lee and Mississippi College as universities to earn the honor in both men's and women's tennis.
