MOBILE, Ala. – The UWF women's basketball team erased a 6-point deficit late in regulation before falling 90-80 at Spring Hill Tuesday night.
Junior Halee Nieman led the Argonauts with 17 points to go along with nine rebounds. Senior Shaniqua Magee was a point shy of a career high with 14 points, while adding five assists, five rebounds in a career-best 21 minutes.

Courtney Meyer had 11 points, four rebounds and two blocks. She became the UWF all-time leader in blocked shots, passing Melissa Nafzger who had 195 from 2003-06.
UWF (2-2) shot 41 percent and was 26-of-26 from the free throw line for 72 percent, but committed 24 turnovers and had multiple players battle foul trouble all game.
"Spring Hill played a tougher game than we did," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We battled our way to get it into overtime and in overtime we just didn't have anything left."
Spring Hill (4-1) shot 48 percent and capitalized on the UWF mistakes, outscoring the visitors 21-9 in points off turnovers. Jewel Hill led all players with 27 points, in addition to her team-high seven rebounds. Tiffany Valentine was a force inside as she had 20 points, three boards and a block. After missing much of the first half with two fouls, she scored 14 in the second half and overtime, including 11 in the third quarter.
UWF trailed 17-11 after the first 10 minutes when SHC used a 9-2 run to erase a 9-8 Argo advantage. The second quarter had four lead changes in the last few minutes before the teams went into to the locker rooms tied at 34. The teams tied in the third and fourth quarters, scoring 25 and 18 points, respectively to send the game into the extra session tied at 77.
Nieman's layup with 14.3 remaining in regulation knotted the score for the 13th and final time. Valentine missed a jumper before the final horn.
In overtime, the Badgers scored the first five points before a Nieman free throw pulled UWF within 82-78. After trading baskets, Valentine made a layup with 40 seconds left and Jennifer Clark connected on four free throws down the stretch to give the Badgers the victory.
UWF will return to action on Sunday for its home opener at the UWF Field House. The Argonauts play host to Saint Leo at 2:00 p.m. The department will be collecting canned food at the door.
