Argonauts bested by Tigers

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's basketball (6-2) hosted the West Alabama Tigers (4-6) at the UWF Field House on Saturday.

The Argonauts took an early lead over the Tigers going up 11-3 in the first quarter led by Shami Goodman.

The Argonauts led 33-31 at halftime over the West Alabama Tigers. Shami Goodman led the team in the first half making six of eight field goal attempts and scoring fifteen points. Goodman also drained two of her three attempts from the three point line. Belle Bistrow made three of her four attempts from the three point line.

At half Sydney Bozeman led the Tigers with six of eight field goal attempts with a total of twelve points. Elaine Field was two of four field goal attempts with five points for the Tigers.

With two minutes left in the third quarter the Argonauts led 61-48 over the Tigers. Belle Bistrow went two for two from three in the third quarter.

With just over seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter the Tigers made two free throws to make the game 63-58. The Argonauts battled to get their offense moving again with four minutes remaining as they went down for the first time in the game 70-65 to the Tigers.  

West Alabama continued to press and took a ten point lead with just over a minute remaining. The Tigers completed their comeback to win 83-72 over the Argonauts who move to 6-3. Chloe Culpepper of UWA finished the game with 19 points for the Tigers.

Shami Goodman led the Argos with a total of 28 points. Belle Bistrow was five of seven from three. The Argos will host Montevallo on Monday at 5:30pm at the UWF Field House.
