UWF Unable To Hang On Against CBU, Falls on the Road 59-51

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The UWF women's basketball team was unable to maintain a fourth quarter lead and fell to Christian Brothers, 59-51, at Canale Arena on Monday afternoon.
                                                                                                                           
CBU outscored UWF 17-2 in the final 8:35 of the game. The Argos went scoreless for a 6:12 stretch that saw a 49-42 lead transition into a 55-49 deficit with 3:55 to play. From there, UWF went just 1-for-9 from the floor with a turnover in its final seven possessions.
 
UWF controlled the tempo and the lane for the opening three quarters. The Argos ended the first period on a 6-0 run to grab a 14-12 lead. The Lady Bucs fought back to retake a 17-16 edge, before UWF rattled off 10-consecutive on its way to a 29-23 halftime lead.
 
The Argonauts were cruising along, stretching the lead to 43-29 late in the third and still held a 47-40 edge at the end of the frame. But CBU started attacking the UWF defense with success and claimed the victory.
 
Halee Nieman and Chloe Branch had 11 points each to lead UWF (10-6, 5-4 Gulf South). UWF shot 36 percent and was just 2-of-21 from 3-point range. Shami Goodman added 10 and Courtney Meyer led the way with 13 rebounds and nine points.
 
CBU (6-9, 5-4) shot 41 percent overall and 50 percent in the second half. Rafaella Angelidou had 15 points to pace the Lady Bucs in the scoring column.
 
UWF will return home to play host to West Georgia and Auburn-Montgomery this week. Thursday's game at the UWF Field House against the Wolves will tip at 5:30 p.m.
