UWF Silences Mississippi College, 77-43

Head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton earns win number 99 at UWF

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team was dominant for 40 minutes in defeating Mississippi College, 77-43, at the UWF Field House on Sunday.
 
UWF (9-4, 4-2 Gulf South) scored the first even points in the game and never trailed as it collected its sixth-consecutive win over MC. The win was also the 99th at UWF for sixth-year head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton.
 
Halee Nieman led all players with 14 points, while Chloe Branch came off the bench to score a season-high 13 on 6-of-9 shooting. Courtney Meyer registered her seventh double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, to go along with five blocked shots.
 
The Lady Choctaws trimmed the early margin to two points late in the first quarter before a 7-0 Argo run extended the lead to 17-10. MC got within three early in the second at 17-14, but UWF responded with an 11-0 stretch to put the game out of reach. 
 
UWF led by 19 at the half and never by fewer than 21 in the last 18 minutes.
 
The Argonauts shot 42 percent from the floor and were 21-of-27 from the free throw line. UWF also controlled the glass, finishing with 44-36 edge.
 
The largest stat of the game came in points off turnovers. UWF scored 31 points off 22 MC miscues.
 
MC (5-9, 1-7) got team-highs of 14 points and eight rebounds from Kelley Allen.
 
UWF will plays host to Delta State (5-8, 3-4) on Tuesday night. Tip-off at the UWF Field House is set for 5:30 p.m. The game will be followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
