PENSACOLA, Fla.– Sophomore
Charlotte Ellmore scored 20 points and junior
Danielle Norquest had her fifth double-double of the season to lead the UWF women's basketball team to a 66-62 victory over Spring Hill, at the UWF Field House on Saturday.
The Argos trailed by four points after the first quarter but were able to take a 28-27 lead at the half. UWF extended the lead to five at the end of the third, hitting on four 3-pointers in the period.
"I thought we grew up a lot today, I thought our team stepped up to the challenge," UWF head coach Stephanie Yelton said. "I saw glimpses of us really competing and getting connected and I thought today was the payoff."
UWF (3-5) shot 37 percent from the field and was able to force 11 Badger turnovers while only giving away the ball themselves twice. The Argos were outrebounded 38-35, however UWF had a 12-4 edge on the offensive glass.
In addition to Ellmore and Norquest in double figures, sophomore
Aline Fevrier added 12 points, while senior
Faithe Franklin had 14 and a game-high six assists. Norquest finished with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
"I think I was more relaxed today and my teammates helped me get some open shots and they really moved the ball around which helped me a lot," Ellmore said.
SHC (2-7) shot 51 percent and was led by Tiffany Valentine's 17 points and six rebounds.
UWF will return to action in eight days when they continue their 4-game homestand against Lee on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m.
