UWF Post Game Notes – vs. Mississippi College

- UWF captains: Joshua Smiley, Henry Montgomery, Devin Gibson, Tate Lehtio
- MC won the toss and deferred to the second half. In overtime, UWF won the toss and elected to play defense first. MC chose to play at the East end of the stadium.
- UWF improved to 4-0 against Mississippi College all-time with all four games being decided by 14 points or less.
- UWF trailed 14-0 late in the second quarter. The 14-point deficit was the third-largest overcome in a win in program history. UWF trailed 16-0 in the second quarter at West Georgia in the 2017 regular-season finale and 21-16 at halftime at Delta State in 2018. They also trailed 20-0 at Valdosta in 2016 and came back to lead 28-27 before eventually losing 40-28.
- The game was the first overtime game in program history (41 games). The Argos are also 25-16 all-time and 14-12 in Gulf South Conference play.
- In the overtime, MC ran six plays for minus-9 yards before missing a 51-yard field goal. UWF scored on a 15-yard Austin Reed to Kevin Grant pass to cap a 5-play, 25-yard scoring possession.
- Redshirt freshman WR Kenneth Channelle recorded his first career touchdown on a 32-yard pass from Austin Reed with 2:13 left in the first half. He added another catch for 13 yards on the third quarter drive that tied the game at 14-14.
- Midway through the third quarter redshirt freshman QB Austin Reed scored from a yard out for his third rushing touchdown of the season to tie the game at 14-14. He finished the game 14-of-24 with 196 yards and two touchdowns.
- Redshirt freshman LB Gael Laurent made his first career start for the injured Andre Duncombe and finished with six tackles, three for loss a sack and forced a fumble.
- Laurent's forced fumble of MC's Brantan Barnett in the third quarter that was recovered by Andrew Wilcox was the fourth-consecutive game UWF has forced a turnover. UWF has now forced at least one turnover in 37 of 41 all-time games.
- Sophomore RB Jervon Newton rushed for 110 yards on 19 carries – both career highs. He was the focal point of the Argonauts third scoring drive, rushing nine times for 52 yards and a 2-yard TD. The drive itself was 10 plays and 63 yards as UWF went ahead 21-14 with 14:54 left in the game. The 100-yard rushing game was sixth in school history and the seventh in the GSC in 2019.
- Senior WR Tate Lehtio caught one pass for five yards, moving his career total to 137 and passing Antoine Griffin for first place on the career receptions list.
- UWF was 3-of-5 in the red zone, moving its season totals to 16-of-20.
- Redshirt sophomore TE Jacure' Jackson caught a 12-yard pass midway through the second quarter for his first catch of the season. It was just the second completion to a tight end this year.
- The UWF defense held Mississippi College to 227 yards of total offense, 50-yards below their 3-game average of 277.3.
- UWF is 2-0 in Gulf South Conference play for the second-consecutive season. A year ago, the Argonauts defeated Shorter, MC and Delta State to open league play.
- UWF improved to 8-2 in night games at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
