Dowdy Named GSC Freshman Of The Week

Freshman from Plant City, Florida threw seven scoreless innings

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- UWF Starting Pitcher, Tyler Dowdy, was named as the Gulf South Conference freshman of the week, the league announced on Wednesday morning.

Dowdy, a freshman from Plant City, Florida got the call in Sunday afternoon' second game of a double-header and delivered, throwing seven scoreless innings as he earned the win.

Tyler also only allowed two hits, one walk and faced a total of 24 batters.  He also allowed an opponent batting average of .087 and had five strikeouts.  After allowing a hit to lead off the top of the third inning, Dowdy went on to retire the next 15 batters he faced before exiting in the top of the eighth inning.

The freshman currently sits in third in the GSC in opponent batting average, and is  tied for second in hits allowed.

Dowdy and the Argos will look to continue their winning ways as they host Spring Hill on Wednesday, February 10th at 3 pm before welcoming Shorter into town on Saturday, February 12th and 13th.
