NCAA Berth on the Line
With Sunshine State Conference teams taking up the first seven spots in the most recent NCAA regional rankings, the GSC will likely only have one team earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament starting next weekend. The GSC does have an automatic bid for its conference champion in women’s soccer, and that will be on the line this weekend. The Argos are looking to earn their 11th NCAA postseason appearance.
All-GSC Argonauts
Four Argos earned All-GSC first team selections, and three earned second team picks. Monica Malavassi, Tina Murray and Jordan Stone were all repeat first team picks, while Daniele Cruz Mejia earned her first career selection. Representing UWF on the All-GSC second team were Kelly Andres, Lauren Byrd and Rachel Cutts.
Streak Ends at 54
The Argonauts’ regular season GSC winning streak came to an end two weeks ago in a 2-0 loss to North Alabama. UWF had gone undefeated in regular season GSC play from Oct. 24, 2003 to Oct. 16, 2011, a streak spanning 54 games and eight seasons.
