Robin Dezarn | Athletic Coordinator
After over seven years as women's golf head coach at the University of West Florida, Robin Dezarn accepted a new role in the department as athletic coordinator starting in spring 2010. In her new role, Dezarn assists athletic director Dave Scott as well as provides support to various areas in the department.
Dezarn built the Argonauts women’s golf program into a regional and national power since it first teed off in 2002. UWF has been the dominant team in the sport’s brief history in the Gulf South Conference, as the Argonauts have claimed four of the conference’s first five championships. Dezarn’s four straight titles came in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009, and she was named the GSC Coach of the Year each of those seasons.
West Florida’s top national finish came in 2007 as the Argos placed third at the NCAA Super Regional, falling just short of a berth to the NCAA Championships. UWF claimed 15 tournament titles under Dezarn, with at least two coming in each season from 2003-04 to 2007-08. The Argonauts have also earned 13 individual titles in their history with Dezarn.
Under her watch, the Argonauts have earned four NGCA All-America selections, and in 2004 Clara Fornella was the NGCA National Freshman of the Year. Dezarn has also coached two GSC Players of the Year, two GSC Freshmen of the Year, and 17 All-GSC selections. UWF players earned medalist honors three years in a row at the GSC Championships, as Sarah Nicholson (2007), Natalia Espinosa (2008), and Bhavna Shetty (2009) won the tournament titles. Not only have her student-athletes starred on the course, but in just seven seasons the Argonauts have earned four NGCA All-America Scholar honors and two UWF Female Scholar Athlete of the Year awards.
Dezarn began her college career in 1995 as a student-athlete at Auburn University. While a member of Auburn women's golf team, Dezarn medaled in various tournaments including the Pepperdine Invitational, the Auburn Tiger Invitational, the United States-Japan Intercollegiate, the Lady Paladin Invitational, and the Fripp Island / Hogan Intercollegiate.
Named the 1999 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, Dezarn finished her Auburn career with four school records. She became the program leader in career stroke average (75.95), single-season stroke average (74.64 in 1998-99), and tournaments played (46), and she tied for the program record in tournaments titles (four). Throughout her college career she was named second team All-American twice and first team All-SEC three times.
Since her graduation from Auburn in 1999, Dezarn has stayed active in the golf world. Presently she is an assistant golf professional at Stonebrook Golf Club. Her responsibilities include teaching, tournament operations, rounds tracking, and inside operations. Dezarn also spent four summers working as a counselor at the Auburn University golf camp, worked as a golf shop assistant both in Auburn, Ala. and Pace, Fla., and in 2000 she was the tournament director for the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour.
Dezarn has a long history of winning on the golf course. In 1993, she was given the All Sports Association of Northwest Florida Amateur Award. She was also a member of the winning American Junior Golf Association Canon Cup Team in 1993, 1994, and 1995, as well as medaling in 1994 and 1995 in the Florida State High School Tournament. Her senior year of high school she was named a second team All-American by the American Junior Golf Association.
Dezarn, formerly Robin Cook of Pace, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Cook, co-owners of Stonebrook Golf Club. She holds a bachelor's degree in Health Promotions with a minor in Business from Auburn. She is married to Michael Dezarn and they have one daughter, Natalie.
